Cotolo’s harness-weekend review, 1-11-11
The wheels of the season are rolling everywhere as January ensues and we are again on top of the action. We are also on the precipice of the winter stakes action, with series and large-pursed finals on the near horizon. With the sun setting a little later every day on the march through March and into spring, harness racing beckons the bets.Let’s recap the weekend, where again we dealt out some winners from our watch list at Cal-Expo. The no-takeout, late Pick 4 was too easy for our tastes; we were aiming for the bigger one with suggested contenders that could have raked in most of the $30,000-plus pool. Our ticket turned out to only cost $6 due to a scratch, so the quest to break that bank continues.
Meanwhile, we had winners at the California plant over the weekend, each from watch lists and content on featured races.
Tutiming Gal and Shalana won second time out from the list, paying $15.60 and $11.80, respectively. If you went one more time with Agirlthing and liked the price, you collected on her third-straight win, this one at $6.
Shoot The Works won, paying $8.80; Alpine Hawk won, paying $8.60; Nightscreamer won, paying $4.80, Dreaming Of Amy won, paying $4.40; and Fakeutu Bluegrass won the Peter Lobell leg at $4. We thought “Fakeutu” would be a third choice, tops, but the public went along with our assessment.
In Woodbine’s Snowshoe elims, both of our suggestions finished second and did so at lower odds than we expected. Premier Intel was 3-1 and Cheyennee Oxe was 4-1. The latter was still higher odds than the favorite, Web Cam, who finished behind “Oxe.”
