• Upsets Sited In Series’ Legs And Finals

    POSTED Mar 7, 2012
The Meadowlands and Woodbine harness once again get the spotlight for features, with the former offering legs two of the Overbid and Four Leaf Clover and the latter with finals in the Damsel and Cam Fella.

Those last two take place on the Saturday, March 10 program, where Woodbine players on TwinSpires are eligible for bonus rewards, collecting TSC Elite points at the rate of 10X with successful $10 win tickets.

At Cal-Expo we start the weekend off Friday with the exclusive TwinSpires-Cal-Expo no-takeout Pick 4.

    Top Mares In Motion

The second leg of the Overbid Series for FFA mare pacers at the Meadowlands goes on Friday, March 9. Last week one of trainer Ron Burke’s three entries, Rocklamation, took advantage of a few disadvantages besetting other rivals.

Put On A Show returned to the races after a year and was stuck on the outside where she could hardly accomplish a coup. Champion Anndrovette was third, definitely needing the mile. Higher And Higher was the favorite and she was rather flat.

Tea Party Princess launched the early duel and managed to sit cold afterwards and get second at 10-1. That was a strong mile and she could be better this evening. However, she is one of four Burke horses here, so value is not expected from that quartet.

This leaves Rock N Soul, the good old gal that tends to strike at the best possible odds (remember 2010 and 2011?). She was in the early dueling last week and can make a winning move if she finds a good spot early sans any trouble.

Saturday, March 10, the best of the Damsel series meet for a $100,000 final at Woodbine. This is one tough field, with any kind of
an upset providing a strange scenario. Were the best here to cancel each other out shuffling or dueling, you would have to take a shot with Rock For Glory. She made it here under the worst circumstances, staying alive against this powerful group and would pay better than she is worth if she won.

    ‘Fella’ Final

The Cam Fella final is worth $100,000 on Saturday, March 10 at Woodbine.  Here we have a good shot at an upset with Mach Wheel. In the leg’s division won by Reibercrombie, Mach Wheel weaved a strong path from off the pace to get the place at 12-1. The winner has since been sited for a positive test (a Class III drug), getting 90 days suspension. Mach Wheel’s performance was superb with no accusation of medication abuse but should it be true then bring that mile up a notch and give him a great shot in this speedball event.

Again this Saturday, Woodbine players at TwinSpires get 10X TSC Elite Points for cashing $10-win tickets.

More Burke-battlers go at the Meadowlands on Saturday in Four Leaf Clover. One of our 2011 picks, Risk Management, won last week’s leg. This week we will be watching Fools Gold. He had it rough last week for trainer Daryl Bier and tonight Bier may hand the reins over to Tim Tetrick.

    Cal Exotic

The March 10 no-takeout Pick 4 at Cal-Expo brings together four groups on the Friday program. Here is our evaluation. Add to your ticket as your bankroll allows. Our $2 ticket costs $8.

    Leg 1
    (7) He’s Country just missed last time and may be worth a little more on the board considering two others in this field coming off wins.

    Leg 2
    (7) Double L Rumbler doesn’t have many credentials but gets the nod by default, since this field is crowded with past performances that cannot be excused.

    Leg 3
    (2) Roger J was bet last week after winning the prior week and raced evenly but not up to par. It is no stretch to imagine there will be more power in tonight’s effort and maybe at a better price. (8) Village Benjamin looked like he would tank after a pressured first half but he stayed strong and put in a marvelous win; he can come right back.

    Leg 4
    (5) Barona Destiny was gaining ground and got fourth at 20-1 and cannot be ignored here. Poorlittlerichgirl was a threatening second at 7-1 and could turn the tables tonight.
