POSTED Jul 25, 2012 By Derek Simon
This week’s show focuses on pace handicapping — does one segment of a race matter more than another? — as well a variety of studies documented by the great handicapping author James Quinn in “The Best of Thoroughbred Handicapping.”

In the Racing News segment, Ed DeRosa of
Brisnet.com and Derek Simon discuss the merits (or lack thereof) of Horse of the Year candidates Acclamation and Royal Delta.

Lastly, in the Handicapping segment, races from Woodbine, Delaware Park, Northlands Park, River Downs, Santa Rosa (not Solano) and others are analyzed.

This podcast offers an interesting perspective on pace handicapping and the value of different race segments. The discussion about Horse of the Year candidates is also insightful. I wonder, considering modern data analysis techniques, how much Quinn's older handicapping methods still hold up today? Always fascinating to hear about horse racing strategies and different approaches. Drift Hunters.
